Mumbai: Under the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) programme, Navi Mumbai would build slums in a manner similar to Mumbai. For the execution of the SRA programme in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra Industries Minister Uday Samant has given his assent in principle. Thousands of slum residents who live from Digha to Nerul’s Shivajinagar and are all under the control of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) would benefit from the decision.

At a meeting on Saturday convened at Mantralaya in Mumbai, Mr. Samant made the announcement. In the meeting, the Minister gave the go-ahead to launch the first-ever biometric survey, an essential step in achieving the goals of the SRA scheme. Additionally, he formally declared his consent in principle for the reconstruction of some 35,000 slums under the supervision of MIDC.
