Under the massive plantation initiative Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, about 80 crore saplings have been planted nationwide thus far. The Ministry of Forests, Climate Change, and Environment accomplished its lofty objective of planting 80 crore seedlings. The Ministry reports that on the 25th of this month, five days ahead of schedule, the goal was accomplished. The result was ascribed by the Ministry to the cooperative efforts of local communities, government entities, and other stakeholders.

With the planting of around 26 crore seedlings, Uttar Pradesh has led the nation in the successful afforestation efforts of the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign. Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign on June 5th, this year, on World Environment Day in New Delhi.
