New Delhi: India is now both the greatest producer and second-largest exporter of sugar in the world. More than 5,000 lakh metric tonnes of sugarcane were produced in the nation during Sugar Season 2021–2022 a record. Out of this, 359 lakh metric tonnes of sugar were produced by sugar mills, while 35 lakh metric tonnes of sugar were diverted to the manufacturing of ethanol.
Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ministry said, the season has proven to be a watershed season for Indian Sugar Sector. Over 109 lakh metric tonnes of sugar exports, a record, have been recorded.According to the ministry, the success of the Indian sugar industry was made possible by favourable worldwide pricing and central government policy.
About 40000 crores of rupees in foreign currency were made through these exports. It stated that the success of the sugar industry was a result of the coordinated and cooperative efforts of the federal and state governments, farmers, and sugar mills, as well as a favourable overall economic environment in the nation.
