Often we are told to slowly drink water, drop by drop. While, it may work for some, but there are many who keep on doing it without a favourable result. Here are a few home remedies that can help.

Put a teaspoon of sugar crystals under your tongue and allow it to melt. Swallow and then have a glass of water. The hiccups will stop. Swallowing sugar stimulates the vagus nerve and makes the body forget the hiccups.

Holding of breath is another age-old way to deal with hiccups. It is recommended that you hold your breath for around 20-30 seconds and repeat the procedure twice or thrice or till the hiccups stop.
