GST compensation for states and union territories is released by the centre in the amount of 17,000 crore rupees.

New Delhi: The Center has released a sum totaling 17,000 crore rupees for the remaining GST compensation due to states and union territories from April to June of this year. Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Tamil Nadu top the list of states with the most competition.

While Delhi and Uttar Pradesh each earned over one billion two hundred billion rupees, Maharashtra received the largest compensation at over two thousand crore rupees. Additionally, Tamil Nadu received close to 12,000 crore rupees, and Karnataka received over 1,900 crore rupees. Over one lakh fifteen thousand crore rupees have been paid out in compensation so far in 2022–2023 overall.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the centre has already made available for payment of compensation to States the entire amount of Cess projected to be collected this year through the end of March. This choice was made to aid States in resource management and ensure that their programmes, particularly capital expenditures, are successfully carried out throughout the fiscal year.
