Chennai: The third and last meeting of the G20 Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group, hosted by India, is scheduled to take place in Chennai from today until the 26th of this month. Member Secretary Kamal Kishore, NDMA, spoke during a press conference prior to the event. In his speech, he noted that this was the first time a specific working group on disaster risk reduction had been established, demonstrating India’s dedication to addressing the problems caused by disasters and climate crisis on a global scale.
The G20 countries and their leaders, as well as representatives from international organisations and knowledge partners, will attend the conference to work on crafting the Communiqué, which will include significant recommendations and common commitments pertaining to the working group’s priority areas. These topics include the Ecosystem-based Approach to DRR, Disaster Response System, Disaster and Climate Resilient Infrastructure, Global Coverage of Early Warning Systems, and Financing Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.
