Thailand and Cambodia at war?

Tensions have surged along the Thailand–Cambodia border after the Thai army accused Cambodian forces of breaking a newly established truce. Despite both sides agreeing to an unconditional ceasefire beginning at midnight on July 28, 2025, following peace talks in Malaysia, Thai authorities claimed that clashes and armed attacks by Cambodian forces resumed within hours of the agreement. The fighting, focused on disputed ancient temple sites along their 800-kilometer border, had already resulted in at least 35 deaths and displaced more than 260,000 people on both sides in the days leading up to the ceasefire.

A Thai army spokesperson stated that Cambodian troops launched attacks into several areas of Thai territory as the truce took effect. Meanwhile, Cambodia’s Prime Minister insisted that his forces had committed to easing hostilities with the implementation of the ceasefire. Both governments blamed each other for the violence, which involved drone strikes, artillery, and evacuations of civilians. The diplomatic crisis continues, with border crossings closed and international mediators monitoring the situation closely.
