The 9th India-Brazil Joint Commission Meeting will be co-chaired in New Delhi by Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. On a four-day official visit to India, the Brazilian Foreign Minister landed in the country’s capital on Saturday. According to the External Affairs Ministry (MEA), Mr. Vieira’s visit will strengthen Brazil and India’s strategic alliance. Dr. Jaishankar and Mr. Vieira will discuss how the two countries, as members of the Troika, can carry forward important G20 outcomes from India’s G20 Presidency last year, according to the MEA. Beginning in November 2024, Brazil will lead the G20 as its president.

During Brazil’s G20 Presidency in 2024, South Africa, India, and Brazil will make up the G20 Troika. The G20 Leaders’ Summit will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on November 18–19. There are 19 nations in the G20, including Brazil and India. According to the MEA, Brazil and India have a complex relationship that is based on similar ideals. It stated that the visit by the foreign minister of Brazil will offer a chance to deepen the strategic alliance formed in 2006 and investigate new opportunities for bilateral, regional, and multilateral collaboration in a variety of fields.

India’s delegation to the G20 Development Ministers’ Meeting in Rio de Janeiro earlier in July was led by Dammu Ravi, the Secretary for Economic Relations in the Ministry of External Affairs. He emphasized India’s major initiatives during the meeting, such as the AMRUT, Jal Jeevan Mission, and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, and reaffirmed India’s commitment to fulfilling the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) pertaining to water and sanitation.
