India now has 80 Ramsar sites after adding five more wetlands to the list, according to Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav. The Minister stated on social media that India now has 80 Ramsar Sites, up from 75, with just two days left until World Wetlands Day. The five sites’ certifications were given to him by Dr. Musonda Mumba, Secretary General of the Ramsar Convention.
The Minister claimed that a paradigm shift in India’s approach to its wetlands has resulted from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on environmental conservation and protection. He said that the Prime Minister’s Amrit Dharohar project reflects this.
