The public has been requested to provide recommendations for relevant modifications to the current legal administrative structure in order to facilitate simultaneous polls across the nation, as part of the ‘One Nation, One Election’ group chaired by former president Ram Nath Kovind. The high-level committee stated in a public announcement that it will review the recommendations submitted by January 15th.

Since the committee’s formation in September of last year, two meetings have been place. It has also written to political parties recently, asking for their opinions and to communicate with them on a “mutually agreed date” regarding the possibility of conducting polls simultaneously. Subsequently, it reminded the parties.

Thirty-three state parties, seven registered unrecognised parties, and six national parties received letters. The Law Commission’s opinions about simultaneous polling have also been heard by the committee. On the matter, the law panel can be convened once more.
