New Delhi: By the time the nation celebrates the 100th anniversary of its independence, India’s youth and the country as a whole should be drug-free, according to Home Minister Amit Shah. The goal is to build an India where not even one young person is addicted to drugs, according to Mr. Shah, who is the chair of the regional conference on “Drug Trafficking and National Security” in New Delhi.
In his presence, the Narcotics Control Bureau, working with the Anti Narcotics Task Force of all states, destroyed more than 1.40 lakh kilogrammes of drugs worth 2,378 crore rupees in various regions of the nation. The most narcotics ever destroyed in a single day was in this amount. A record in and of itself, 10 lakh kilogrammes of illegal drugs worth more than twelve thousand crore rupees were destroyed in the previous year.
In accordance to the Home Minister, drug use and trafficking compromise national security in a nation like India in addition to harming present and future generations. Using the gatherings of Regional Conferences, he claimed, the Home Ministry regularly carries out a drug-abuse campaign. He emphasised that raising public awareness is what will ultimately win the war on drugs. Until young people and parents in the nation are made aware of the dangers of drugs, he continued, this battle cannot be won.
