The next Foreign Secretary will be Vikram Misri, an Indian Foreign Service officer from the 1989 class. He will take over for Vinay Mohan Kwatra, whose term expires on the 14th of the next month. At the moment, Mr. Misri works for the National Security Council Secretariat as the deputy national security advisor. In China, Burma, and Spain, he held the position of Indian Ambassador. As a private secretary to three prime ministers—Inder Kumar Gujral in 1997, Manmohan Singh in 2012, and Narendra Modi in 2014—Mr. Misri holds a unique distinction.
