Thiruvananthapuram: In a significant step towards strengthening Kerala’s employment ecosystem, a district-level employers’ meeting was convened in Thiruvananthapuram as part of the state government’s flagship Vijnana Keralam project. The initiative is designed to provide skill-based job opportunities that match the qualifications of unemployed youth, with a strong focus on placements in the private sector.

The meeting, inaugurated by Dr. T. M. Thomas Isaac, Chief Advisor to Vijnana Keralam and former Finance Minister, brought together key stakeholders from industries including Adani Port, Kerala Tourism Promoters Association, leading banks, Gokulam Medical College, and Kallingal Motors.

As part of the campaign’s first phase, the state has set an ambitious target of creating one lakh new jobs across Kerala, of which 10,000 jobs are earmarked for Thiruvananthapuram district.

Local Self-Government Institutions (LSGIs), in coordination with the Kudumbashree Mission, will spearhead efforts to identify eligible candidates, provide necessary skill training, and ensure smooth placement processes.

A Growing People’s Campaign

Launched in 2024, Vijnana Keralam has already facilitated over 38,000 job placements within ten months, and the state is expanding job fairs and virtual career centres to every taluk. The project is part of Kerala’s broader vision of building a knowledge-driven economy, bridging the gap between education, employability, and industry demand.

Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Isaac highlighted the role of private sector collaboration, stating that “Kerala’s growth story depends on converting its skilled youth into a productive workforce. Vijnana Keralam is the bridge that connects talent with opportunity.”

With employers stepping in and LSGIs mobilising talent pools, the project is expected to play a pivotal role in reducing unemployment and empowering Kerala’s youth in the coming months.
