As part of the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme, the Union Cabinet has approved the creation of twelve new greenfield industrial smart cities with the aim of revolutionizing the industrial landscape of the nation. The total expected investment in these industrial sectors will be 28,602 crore rupees, according to Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who spoke to the media following the Cabinet meeting in New Delhi. Up to 30 lakh indirect jobs and 10 lakh direct jobs, he claimed, will be produced by these initiatives.
Situated strategically along six important corridors, the projects are spread over ten states. They are: Dighi in Maharashtra; Orvakal and Kopparthy in Andhra Pradesh; Palakkad in Kerela; Jodhpur-Pali in Rajasthan; Agra and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh; Khurpia in Uttrakhand; Gaya in Bihar; Rajpura-Patiala in Punjab; Zaheerabad in Telangana; and Dighi in Maharashtra.
