A review consultation paper was launched today by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in an effort to gather public feedback on tightening laws against unregistered telemarketers (UTMs).
In order to address the problem of unwanted commercial communications—in particular, harassing public calls in the form of spam—the authority has requested feedback. Stronger financial penalties for breaking regulatory laws, improved complaint redressal procedures, more efficient UCC detection systems, and updated guidelines for telemarketers and senders are among the other areas that need to be improved.
The Consultation Paper can be found on the TRAI website. Written responses to the consultation paper are requested from the stakeholders by the 25th of the following month.
