The government claimed to have made it easier for more than 2500 Scheduled Castes (SCs) pupils to be admitted into private schools under the SHRESHTA programme. Through the efforts of grant-in-aid institutions and residential high schools that provide high-quality education, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment said in a statement that the Scheme for Residential Education for Students in High Schools in Targeted Areas (SHRESHTA) aims to fill the gap in service-deficient SCs dominant areas. It also aims to create an atmosphere that promotes the socioeconomic advancement and general development of the Scheduled Castes (SCs).

The Ministry stated that additional modifications have been made to the programme to make it simpler for deserving SC kids to attend the top schools in the nation for their academic and holistic development. It further said that a predetermined number of deserving SC students will be chosen annually by the National Testing Agency via the National Entrance Exam for SHRESHTA. These pupils will be accepted into the top private residential schools connected to State Boards and CBSE.
