The release of Mohanlal’s much-hyped big-budget movie ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’ directed by Priyadarshan has been rescheduled again owing to the second wave of COVID-19. The new release date of the movie was announced by Mohanlal himself through his official social media handles. Sharing alongside a new poster of the movie, it was announced that Marakkar will hit the theatres on August 12 this year.
Initially, the makers planned to release the movie on March 21, 2020. But following the pandemic and the lockdown, the release was extended. Later it was scheduled to release on May 13. As the government is mulling the closure of theatres amid the surge in COVID cases, the team decided to postpone again.
Touted to be a period drama set in the 16th century, ‘Marakkar: Arabikkadalinte Simham’ tells the story of Kunjali Marakkar IV, the naval chief of the Zamorin played by Mohanlal. The epic film has some of the A-listers from South and Bollywood including Manju Warrier, Suniel Shetty, Keerthi Suresh, Arjun Sarja, Suhasini, Prabhu, Siddique, Nedumudi Venu, Innocent, Mukesh, Pranav Mohanlal, and Kalyani Priyadarshan are part of the cast. The movie will hit theatres in 5 languages including Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.
Directed by Priyadarshan, ‘Marakkar: Arabikkadalinte Simham’ won the best feature film, best special effects, and best costume design award at the 67th National Film Awards. Movie buffs have been dying to watch the movie in the cinemas, and the National award further accelerated the anticipation.
