New Delhi: The PM Vishwakarma scheme, with a budget of 13,000 crore rupees, has been approved by the government to help traditional craftsmen and craftspeople in rural and urban India. By using their hands and tools, craftsmen and craftspeople who practise traditional trades in families are encouraged by the new Central Sector Scheme to grow and develop such talents. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs today approved the Scheme for a five-year period.
Ashwini Vaishnaw, the minister for communications and information technology, told reporters in New Delhi that the plan will initially include 18 traditional trades. They consist of potters, Sonar, Rajmistri, Toymaker, Lohar, and Carpenters. He said that the programme would include marketing assistance, a toolkit reward, and incentives for digital transactions. According to Mr. Vaishnaw, loans up to one lakh rupees will be offered under this programme at a five percent discounted interest rate.
