To enhance food safety systems, Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda has urged persistent cooperation, constant innovation, and resolute pledges. Today, at the Global Food Regulators Summit in New Delhi, Mr. Nadda stressed how the food systems are changing as a result of growing globalization, advances in technology, and changing consumer tastes. Additionally, he underlined how important it is for the Health Ministry and FSSAI to develop food standards that are in line with changing patterns of food production, consumption, and international trade.
According to the health minister, there are health hazards associated with pesticide residues in food. He stated that although India’s initiatives to support organic farming and alternative pest management techniques are a positive start, more worldwide adoption is required. He stated that there is serious concern over the rise in plastic garbage, which accounts for 80% of marine pollution. According to Mr. Nadda, recent research have shown that humans are alarmingly exposed to microplastics. He stated that in order to lessen the influence on the environment and guarantee the safety of these alternatives for human health, India’s efforts in creating eco-friendly packaging solutions are essential.
He continued by saying that the government has announced the creation of the National Research Foundation, which will have a budget of over $5.96 billion between 2024 and 2028, in an effort to increase research in a number of areas, including food safety.
