Nepal: Sher Bahadur Deuba, the prime minister and president of the Nepali Congress, has been chosen as the parliamentary party leader. Sher Bahadur Deuba defeated Gagan Thapa with a 39-vote margin in the National Congress Parliamentary Party leader election, which was conducted at the PP office in Singh Durbar. Deuba received 64 votes, but Thapa only received 25.

The Nepali Congress has 89 members in the 275-member house of representatives, 57 of them were elected by first-past-the-post voting and 32 using proportional representation. Sher Bahadur Deuba’s opposition was only brought by Gagan. The nominations were both turned in on Tuesday, December 20.
