To encourage business and provide security for fishermen, the government plans to equip one lakh marine fishing vessels with transponders.
Rajiv Ranjan Singh, the Minister of Fisheries, stated at a National Seminar on Application of Space Technologies in the Fisheries Sector in New Delhi that transponders will also sound an alert if a fisherman crosses the maritime border. He stated that the nation’s economy greatly benefits from the fishing industry. According to Mr. Singh, space technologies are essential to improving the development and management of fisheries. He claimed that the nation exports fish and other marine items worth 60,000 crores of rupees a year. According to the Minister, the government is dedicated to ensuring the welfare of fishermen, with about three crore people employed in the fishing industry nationwide.
