Thiruvananthapuram : In a decisive move to fast-track its flagship LIFE Mission housing scheme, the Kerala cabinet has approved a ₹1,500 crore loan through HUDCO.
According to the decision, ₹1,100 crore will be utilized to complete nearly 1.27 lakh houses currently under construction, while ₹400 crore is earmarked for SC/ST housing projects. The loan will be disbursed in two phases between 2025 and 2027 and repaid over a 15-year period.
The decision comes with a broader Onam welfare package, which includes:
- ₹1,000 aid for 52,864 tribal senior citizens.
- Creation of new teaching posts in nursing colleges.
- Fresh infrastructure approvals under the Rebuild Kerala Initiative.
Officials said the measures are intended to strengthen welfare delivery and address the housing needs of vulnerable sections across the state.
