India has seen a decrease in the infant mortality rate for women. The infant mortality rate (IMR) for females in the nation decreased to match that of males. The difference between male and female infant IMR has decreased since 2011, yet it still exists in sixteen states.
Chhattisgarh had the largest discrepancy in 2020, according to the Sample Registration System Statistical Report 2020, with a male baby mortality rate of 35 compared to a female infant mortality rate of 41.
According to Minister of Women and Child Development Smriti Irani, efforts made in support of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao through an integrated strategy spanning advocacy, healthcare, and education are eradicating gender prejudice and producing better results in all metrics.
