The Department of Consumer Affairs has introduced the revised draft regulations for Evidential Breath Analysers under the Legal Metrology (General) Rules, 2011. By ensuring the accuracy and dependability of breath analyzers used by law enforcement and in workplaces, the effort seeks to improve public trust and safety. In order to guarantee uniform and trustworthy results across various devices, the new regulations mandate that Evidential Breath Analysers adhere to standardized testing processes.
Evidential breath analyzers must be validated and stamped in accordance with the Legal Metrology Act of 2009 in order to guarantee accuracy. Evidential Breath Analyzers, according to the Department, offer a rapid and painless method of collecting a sample for blood alcohol content measurement without requiring any invasive procedures. Roadside checks are more successful because law enforcement personnel can act quickly and intelligently thanks to the rapid analytical capabilities. The regulations include a number of test kinds to guarantee the accuracy of the device. The annual verification will guarantee this instrument’s accuracy while it’s being used.
The public can comment on the draft rules through the Consumer Affairs website until the 26th of the next month.
