New Delhi: The country’s mortality rate has decreased, the health of children under the age of five has improved, and no children have died from hunger.

Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani stated in a written response to a question in the Rajya Sabha that the National Family Health Survey’s most recent report indicated that between 2019 and 2021, the nutrition indicators for children under 5 years old have improved from 2015–16. The prevalence of stunting, wasting, and underweight has also decreased.

According to the Registrar General of India’s Sample Registration System (SRS), the national under-five mortality rate has decreased from 43 per 1000 live births in 2015 to 32 per 1000 live births in 2020.
