New Delhi: The Undergraduate and Graduate Technical Textiles Degree Program Guidelines have been published. The rules that will permit the new Technical Textiles Degree Programme (UG & PG) and updating of existing conventional degree programmes with new Technical Textiles papers have received approval from the Textiles Ministry. The Ministry wants to create an eco-system for technological textiles in the engineering fields of civil, mechanical, and electronics in addition to the textile industry.

Grants of up to 20,000 rupees per student per month will be given to the appointed businesses for the purpose of placing B.Tech students in internships in the pertinent Departments and Specializations at Public and Private Institutes. This will be carried out in accordance with the GIST (Grant for Internship Support in Technical Textiles) regulations.

The Guidelines address funding for laboratory equipment upgrades and improvements, training for lab staff, and specialised instruction for Faculty members in the pertinent department and specialism. This will include both privately funded institutions with NIRF rankings and institutions with public funding. Up to 20 crore rupees in support, and up to 10 crores at the undergraduate level, may be provided for the introduction of a comprehensive programme in technical textiles.
