The Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the transportation of human organs by air, land, train, and water have been released by the Union Health Ministry. The government’s SOPs will act as a manual for individuals doing organ transplants all throughout the nation. These SOPs serve as a guide for organ retrieval and transplant facilities across the nation, guaranteeing adherence to best practices and quality standards, according to Health Secretary Apurva Chandra. According to him, the government wants to maximize the use of valuable organs and give hope to the innumerable patients waiting for life-saving transplants by expediting the organ transit procedure.

When an organ donor and recipient are at separate hospitals, either in the same city or in different cities, a live organ must be moved between hospitals. Airlines transporting human organs are permitted by the SOPs for air transportation to ask Air Traffic Control for priority takeoff and landing as well as front-row seating. Similarly, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have been released to explain the fundamental standards and processes for the transportation of organs by road, rail, and via ports via shipping. SOPs for organ transport have been created in collaboration with transplant specialists, relevant ministries, and the NITI Aayog.
