New Delhi: More than nine months after General Bipin Rawat, India’s first Chief of Defence Staff, passed away, General Anil Chauhan assumed command. Gen. Chauhan expressed his pride at undertaking the duties of the highest level in the Indian military.
As the Chief of Defence Staff, I shall make an effort to live up to the expectations of the three armed forces. We will work together to overcome all obstacles and hurdles.
Gen. Chauhan visited the National War Memorial inside the India Gate complex to pay respects to India’s dead soldiers before taking over the CDS. Additionally, he received a tri-services guard of honour on the South Block lawn in the Raisina Hills. There were also the heads of the IAF, the Navy, and the Army, General Manoj Pande, Vice Admiral SN Ghormade, and Air Marshal BR Krishna.
A three-star officer has never before been promoted to a four-star level after coming out of retirement.
Gen. Chauhan has the responsibility for carrying out the ambitious theaterisation plan, which aims to ensure tri-services integration and equip the armed forces for future security threats.
