The Philippines received the first shipment of India’s BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles. Official reports state that the Indian Air Force’s cargo planes carried the first shipment. Under the Revised Armed Forces of the Philippines Modernization Program’s Horizon Two, the Philippines is purchasing the systems. The Philippines became the first export client for the joint venture missile between India and Russia in January 2022 when it signed a 375 million dollar agreement with India for three batteries of the shore-based, anti-ship BrahMos variant.
The BrahMos missile, which is a joint venture between DRDO and Mashinostroyeniya, a Russian NPO, takes its name from the rivers Brahmaputra and Moskva. At supersonic speed, it may go up to 290 kilometers during a flight. It is equipped with a conventional warhead that weighs between two and three hundred kg. The Indian armed services have long since adopted the missile, which can be fired against surface and water-based targets from land, sea, submarine, and air.
