The nation has continuously worked to achieve Aatmanirbhar status in nuclear power, according to the government. India now possesses extensive capabilities in nuclear and related fuel cycle technologies, according to a written response made by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, to the Rajya Sabha. He stated that, subject to the approval and progressive completion of ongoing building projects, the current installed nuclear power capacity is expected to rise from 8180 MegaWatt MW to 22480 MW by 2031–2022.
In response to a follow-up inquiry, Dr. Singh stated that 10 reactors with a capacity of 7000 MW are in the pre-project phase and nine reactors with a total capacity of 7300 MW are being built and commissioned.
