New Delhi: The National Food Security Act (NFSA) requires that the Center give free foodgrains to the states for a year. The cabinet resolved to give the 81 crore beneficiaries of the NFSA free grain during 2023 last week. Additionally, the Scheme will guarantee that the Act is applied consistently and effectively. Additionally, providing free food grains will guarantee that the One Nation One Ration Card is implemented consistently across the nation.
The government has a social and legal obligation to provide the citizens of the country with a decent living by assuring their access to food and nutritional security through the availability of an adequate supply of high-quality food grains, claims the Ministry of Consumer Affairs.
All NFSA recipients, including Antyodaya Ann Yojana homes and Priority Household individuals, would receive free foodgrains under the programme from the Central Government. The country’s extensive network of more than five lakh Fair Price Shops will distribute the foodgrains. Over two lakh crore rupees would be paid in food subsidies by the central government in a single year.
