Bengaluru: Four national-level swimming coaches from Delhi were arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly gang-raping a woman from West Bengal on March 24. The 22-year-old woman was a nurse at a private hospital in the city.
The accused have been identified as Dev Saroha, Yogesh Kumar, Rajat and Shiv Rana. All four men were in Bengaluru for training in a swimming workshop.
As per the complaint, the victim had got in touch with Rajat a week before the incident on a dating app. She met him for a dinner on March 24 at a hotel on New BEL Road.
Later, he took her to his room that he had shared with three of his friends, police said.
Rajath and Shiv Rana had reportedly been in the city for the past three months, renting the room where the crime happened. Their friends Dev Saroha and Yogesh Kumar had joined them a week ago for swimming practice in the city.
Reportedly, a medical examination of the victim has confirmed sexual abuse and rape.
The accused were reportedly on the run after they learned of the police complaint. However, a special team was formed to nab the four and they were arrested from different parts of the Karnataka capital.
The woman filed a complaint with the police, in which she alleged that the four men raped and assaulted her. Following this, she informed her friends who reached there and rescued her, the police said.
The woman is a nurse at a private hospital in the Karnataka capital.
Based on her complaint, the four men were arrested on Tuesday and remanded in judicial custody.
