New Delhi: In a shocking incident, an infant was found dead inside a microwave oven in the Chirag Dilli area of south Delhi. The police rushed to the spot as soon as they got the information.
Police got the information at 3.15 pm from a hospital that a two-month-old baby had been found dead inside a microwave oven, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Benita Mary Jaiker.
The infant was spotted inside the oven by a neighbour, she said.
Jaiker revealed that a case of murder has been registered against unknown persons. As per the report by the police, the mother of the deceased child was upset over the birth of the baby girl.
The girl Ananya was born in January and the mother has been upset since her baby’s birth.
A neighbour, who informed the police about the infant’s death, said that Ms Kaushik had locked herself inside the house after which her mother-in-law raised an alarm. “We broke the glass and entered the room. We found the woman lying unconscious inside with her son, but two-month-old baby Ananya was missing,” he said.
Ananya’s grandmother and some neighbours then looked all over the house and found the infant inside a microwave oven. The oven was placed in a room on the second floor of the house. At the time of the incident, the child’s father was at the departmental store which he runs nearby, police said.
Speaking to the media, the baby’s grandfather alleged, “I was sleeping downstairs when I heard noises. I was told that the baby was missing. We all searched nearby houses and lanes, checked tanks and rooms… After some time, a few boys went to the terrace and opened a room there. They found the baby’s body stashed in an old oven… she was dead. We think her mother killed her as she was the only one at home. She was unhappy with the baby…”
“The infant’s parents, Gulshan Kaushik and Dimple Kaushik, are being interrogated at the police station and further investigation is underway”, Ms Jaiker said.
A similar incident had happened in the US in 2011.
A California mother was sentenced to life in prison in 2015 in the microwave oven death of her one-month-old daughter.
Ka Yang, 34, was sentenced by a Sacramento County Superior Court judge who imposed the life sentence.
She was convicted of first-degree murder and assault for putting Mirabelle Thao-Lo in the microwave for up to five minutes inside of their Sacramento home on March 17, 2011.
