Justice D Y Chandrachud takes the oath as the 50th Chief Justice of India

New Delhi: The new Chief Justice of India, Justice D Y Chandrachud, took the oath of office. Justice Chandrachud received his oath of office from President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhawan, becoming the 50th Chief Justice of India. Following Justice UU Lalit’s retirement yesterday, he took his place.

Serving the average citizen is his first goal, Justice Chandrachud said in his first remark to the media following the swearing-in ceremony. He added that he would endeavour to overhaul the court and registry processes.

Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Kiren Rijiju, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla, and other dignitaries were present at Rashtrapati Bhawan for the swearing-in event.
